Course Description

What is Algebra? It is a foundational part of mathematics. Many higher mathematics depends on understanding it, such as calculus. It uses variables (letters and symbols) to represent numbers in formulas and equations. (An equation essentially states that two mathematical expressions are equal.) It focuses on solving for unknown values and modeling relationships, such as formulas for speed interest, or area. One of the key concepts is manipulating equations and using operations to isolate variables so that a value can be uncovered for them.

Class Format: Classes will be conducted over Zoom. Students will work with hands-on examples and problems. Quizzes and exams will be hosted on the Moodle.

Session Times: Monday & Wednesday, 3 PM – 4:30 PM Eastern USA Time.

Session Dates: August 31 – June 6

Text: Discovering Algebra: An Investigative Approach, Third Edition
